When is it important to have more than one look as an actor?
Believe it or not, every actor may not need multiple looks in his headshot portfolio!
One-look headshot sessions are going to be OK for:
New actors who are just dipping their toes into the acting world and want to see where it goes
Theater/Stage actors
Actors who plan to only do commercial or dramatic film/TV roles
But for everyone else, you will need at least two looks to be considered professional and experienced as an actor.

Your commercial headshot needs to be competitive to stand out in this market. It’s not enough to get your headshots done by someone who doens’t understand what the industry demands to stand out in your headshot.
You can stop the scroll with excellent lighting, background, outfit, expression, and overall POP in your headshot.
The second look that is the most important is a neutral theatrical headshot. We will choose an outfit that is not too specific, but still gives the impression of professionalism you need to communicate.

Once you have your top two types represented, you can get a bit more specific and dress for the roles you want to be cast in. How you look in your headshots has a direct impact on the types of roles that casting directors will consider you for.
Having more specific types represented tell casting directors what you are best at! If you shine as the Biker, you wouldn’t want to submit a headshot that looks like it’s made for a sit-com, for instance.
I normally recommend keeping it a bit subtle - a hint of the type - but if your agency requests it, you can get as specific as you like!
